Dr.Obama's Death panels? What death panels? Oh, those death panels

Sarah Palin’s warning about the effects of Obamacare on the elderly and infirm have been met with derision and ridicule. William Jacobson has a good round-up.
Meanwhile, the effects of socialized medicine in Britain — engineered by government-run cost-cutting panels on which Obamacare would be modeled — continue to wreak havoc on the elderly and infirm:
*Elderly left at risk by NHS bidding wars to find cheapest care with reverse auctions
*Patients forced to live in agony after NHS refuses to pay for painkilling injections
*Elderly suffer in care shambles
*Twisted priorities that let the elderly suffer
*NHS neglects elderly depression.
*NHS failure on Down’s screening kills healthy babies
*‘I said to the nurse, please feed her:’ Pauline Pringle’s mother went into hospital for a hip operation and came out close to starvation. And as Blake Morrison reports, hers is not an isolated case
Last year, my mother-in-law fell off her Stannah and broke a hip. If that sounds like the cue for a Les Dawson joke (”I was hoping it would be her neck”), it isn’t: I’m fond of my mother-in-law and the result of her little accident, not funny in the least, was that she nearly died. After a belated but successful operation, she developed c diff (clostridium difficile, the nation’s favourite hospital killer bug after MRSA), and three courses of antibiotics failed to clear the infection.
Suddenly a robust, cheerful woman of 79, whose only mobility problem had been climbing stairs, began to talk of never leaving hospital again but of being “laid out on a marble slab” - and when the hospital asked for our permission not to resuscitate her should she lose consciousness, we realised this was no paranoid fantasy.
Thanks to the efforts of her five children, who travelled long distances to see her, brought food, pleaded with staff not to write her off and eventually - because the pleas were falling on deaf ears - moved her to another (I’m afraid, private) hospital, my mother-in-law is still around, less active than she used to be, but alive to see in another new year. She was lucky. We were lucky. But as I’m beginning to discover, many people with elderly relatives are not.
Pauline Pringle wasn’t lucky. Her mother Sarah Ingham died around the same time and in similar circumstances, on January 6 last year: a badly dislocated hip was missed and after the operation that eventually followed, Sarah spent 12 weeks in Tameside hospital, Manchester, failing to shake off a post-operative infection and - denied a proper diet - losing three and a half stone in weight. She was then sent home, where the local GP knew nothing of her discharge and didn’t recognise her as the same woman he’d seen three months earlier. She died within a fortnight. At the inquest the coroner, John Pollard, said that he would be writing to the hospital to demand an explanation for Sarah’s malnourishment: “It is totally unsatisfactory in a major city in a western democracy that families have to bring food into a hospital because their loved ones are not being fed properly by staff.”
…One much quoted figure suggests that up to half a million elderly people in the UK are being abused at any one time. Unlike child abuse, elder abuse is rarely reported beyond local newspapers, and those who inflict it are less likely to be held to account.
When a House of Commons health committee produced its report, Elder Abuse, in 2004, it suggested that “abuse in domiciliary settings is the commonest type”. Overall, though, whereas the old are more likely to be robbed of money or possessions by their nearest and dearest, they’re more likely to starve to death in a hospital or care home. Dr Adrian Treloar, a specialist in geriatric psychiatry, caused a furore in 1999 when he applied the phrase “involuntary euthanasia” to the way in which elderly patients in NHS hospitals were being deprived of food and water and “left at the bottom of the pile”.
*Shame on the doctors prejudiced against Down Syndrome
[D]espite all the progress which children with Down Syndrome are now making in schools and homes up and down the country, the medical profession in general still has a visceral bias in favour of eugenic termination, which its practitioners are often startlingly crude in expressing. This is not based on a realistic and up-to-date assessment of the possibilities open to those with Down Syndrome, still less of the happiness which such people can and do bring to families and even communities as a whole: it is a function of the fact – which is undeniable – that people with Down Syndrome are likely to cost the NHS more in subsequent medical treatment than a child without any disabilities.
Yesterday the BBC News website ran a selection of comments on this issue by members of the public. One in particular, by Heather of Livingston, Scotland, is worth reproducing in full here: “I was told that my daughter had Down’s when I was about 12 weeks pregnant and every doctor, gynaecologist I saw tried to convince me a termination was the best option. I was still offered this at 26 weeks! One reason given to me by a cold-hearted consultant was that ‘these babies put a strain on the NHS’. My daughter was stillborn and when pregnant again, I refused all tests apart from a scan. It’s not society who are looking for the ‘perfect baby’, it’s the medical profession.”
Death panels? What death panels? Oh, yeah, those death panels.

ASHLEY JUDD IS A TRASHY SCUMBAG ! GO SARAH PALIN

I AM SO VERY PROUD OF YOU SARAH AND SO ARE THE WOMEN IN AMERICA AND ELSEWHERE. YOU ARE A CLASS ACT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK LADY.

SARAH PALIN HAS MORE SMARTS IN THE TIP OF HER LITTLE FINGER THAN ASHLEY JUDD SCUM WILL EVER DREAM OF HAVING. YOU GIVE EM HELL SARAH. DON'T LET ANYMORE OF THESE SLIMEBAGS GET AWAY WITH THEIR BULLSHIT.

ASHLEY, YOU ARE NOTHING BUT A GLORIFIED SLUTMOUTH. GO TO HELL !

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) defended herself Wednesday against an ad featuring actress Ashley Judd that accuses her of “championing the slaughter of wildlife.”

In a statement released through the governor’s office, Palin called the ad, paid for by Defenders of Wildlife, “reprehensible and hypocritical.”

“The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs,” Palin said. “These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.”

“Shame on the Defenders of Wildlife for twisting the truth in an effort to raise funds from innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times,” she continued.

Defenders of Wildlife launched similar attacks against Palin soon after she was selected as former GOP presidential nominee John McCain’s running mate, but until Judd’s appearance the spots garnered little attention. Palin did not respond to previous criticism from the nonprofit membership organization.

In the ad, Judd condemns Palin for a state policy encouraging the aerial hunting of wolves.

“Palin even proposed a $150 bounty for the severed foreleg of each killed wolf,” Judd says. “And now she is encouraging even more aerial killing. It is time to stop Sarah Palin and stop this senseless savagery.”

THIS POLL IS THE MOST ACCURATE OF ALL THE POLLS,McCAIN SHOULD WIN,OBAMA WILL LOSE

This is the only poll that had it right in 2004. This is the only poll that really counts. They were the most accurate in 2004. An analysis of Final Certified Results for the 2004 election showed TIPP was the most accurate pollster of the campaign season, coming within three-tenths of a percentage point of Bush’s actual margin of victory.

McCain 44.6%

Obama 46.7%

NOT SURE 8.7%

IBD/TIPP Tracking Poll

The race tightened again Sunday as independents who'd been leaning to Obama shifted to McCain to leave that key group a toss-up. McCain also pulled even in the Midwest, moved back into the lead with men, padded his gains among Protestants and Catholics, and is favored for the first time by high school graduates.

GO TO THE POLLS AND VOTE McCain/Palin NOV 4TH. BE STRONG FOR AMERICA !

STAND IN LINE AS LONG AS IT TAKES. It is worth it !

Not God -amn America. God help America. Please pay no attention to the polls. They are there to discourage you from voting. VOTE ! Just do it.

CBS IS IN THE TANK WITH OBAMA. To beleive them on anything is stupidity.

If you vote for Obama, and you think your heating bill and electricity bills are high now, just wait if this foolish idiot gets in office. He wants no coal plants and no nuclear plants for energy. Wind and solar are all he is pushing for. He is kidding or what ? What a damn fool.

Obama will lose, Repeat of 1948: Turnout Puts McCain Ahead in Popular and Electorial Votes!

Election day will be full of suprises. Do not expect what you think.
NOW HEAR THIS. HEAR YE HEAR YE !

Repeat of 1948: Turnout Puts McCain Ahead in Popular and Electorial Votes!
McCain will get 50% of the popular vote nationally.
Obama will get 48% of the popular vote nationally.
McCain will get 278 electorial votes.
Obama will get 260 electorial votes.
Congratulations to all who voted.
Voter turnout will hit a new record of about 64%.

http://raymondpronk.wordpress.com/2008/11/03/repeat-of-1948-turnout-puts-mccain-ahead-in-popular-and-electorial-votes/

The American people are now paying attention and will vote their pocketbooks.
Expect record turnout of voters and long lines.

The big disappointment was the extent to which big media favored Barack Obama.
The staggering number and bias of the polls was used to manipulate and discourage voters that were Independents, undecided and those that were leaning towards McCain to not even bother to come out and vote.

Most ignored the polls and were motivated to show big media how wrong they were.
Independents were turned off by the arrogance of Barack Obama and his desire to share their wealth or income, instead of letting individuals and families keep their hard earned money.
Conservatives will vote for Palin and against Obama who they view as a radical socialist.
Libertarians did not like any of the candidates but voted for McCain over a radical socialist Marxist and decided not to waste their vote on Bob Barr. Many still wanted Ron Paul.
All voters were concerned about their jobs and found Obama proposed tax increases as a direct threat to their employers who would have to lay off employees as well as higher taxes resulting in higher prices for all goods and services. The price of bread, corn, milk and groceries in general and gasoline are still putting a dent in most people’s pocketbooks.

Obama also wants to increase you electricity bills with a new cap and trade tax. Over 50% of the electricity in the United States is coal generated and less than 1% is generated by solar or wind, so-called alternative energy.

So much for socialist planning under Barack Obama–the guy is a economy wrecker and job destroyer:
Obama will lose big time among Catholics and Evangelicals who found Obama’s views on abortion and same sex marriage totally unacceptable and beyong the pale. Obama appointing judges was also a big concern.

As much as they would like to punish big spending Republicans, family values are still important among the Republican base.
The American people again preferred a divided government.

Somebody needs to veto all the spending bills Congress will pass.

Signs Pointing To A McCain Victory on November 4, 2008

Signs Pointing To A McCain Victory

Despite there being an entire cottage industry devoted to exposing the liberal bias of the mainstream media, Republicans and conservatives continue to allow themselves to be unduly influenced, and even demoralized, by what they read and hear in the big city newspapers and on network television.

What are they reading and hearing? That Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States. It's inevitable. It's his election to lose. What proof does the media offer? Public opinion polls that supposedly show Obama "winning" the race. (But see here and here.) The thousands of devoted supporters who attend Obama's rallies. The legions of blacks and young people who are more "inspired" than ever to vote for a candidate who understands their needs and interests. Etc. We all know the story by heart by now.

This is the "narrative" that the mainstream media has been imposing on this year's presidential campaign almost from the start. Remember how quickly the MSM jumped off the Hillary Clinton bandwagon and onto Obama's? Remember how annoyed and angry they became as Hillary refused to concede the nomination? The MSM decided that electing the nation's first black, socialist, anti-American president was politically and historically more important (and, for them, more exciting) than electing the nation's first female, socialist, patriotic president. And they are doing everything they can to achieve this goal.

Well, there is another story out there that the MSM refuses to address. A huge story. One that could, and I think will, significantly affect the outcome of this race. I'm referring to the widespread phenomenon of registered Democrats openly supporting John McCain. There are numerous "Democrats for McCain" type organizations. There are numerous websites and blogs written by Democrats touting McCain's candidacy. There are pro-McCain grassroots efforts being led by Democrats. And we all know friends or relatives who are Democrats, who voted for John Kerry in 2004, and who are no fans of President Bush - but who are going to vote for John McCain this year.

Yet, surprise surprise, the mainstream media is not talking about these voters, not talking about the real rift that is occurring within the ranks of the Democratic Party. Needless to say, if a similar rift were occurring in the Republican Party, it would be treated as the major story that it is. (Indeed, as such stories about the political fault lines in the Republican Party have been treated in the recent past.)

Who are these pro-McCain Democratic voters? They overwhelmingly tend to be former Hillary supporters. Perhaps the most well-known of these voters are the "PUMAs" - which stands for Party Unity My Ass. These are Hillary supporters who are adamantly opposed to Obama. Let's not forget that during the Democratic primaries - real elections, not polls - Hillary crushed Obama among white working-class and middle-class voters in such key states as Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. If a meaningful number of these voters end up voting for McCain, as I predict they will, then Obama's smooth road to the White House is going to run smack into a brick wall.

Earlier this week, I attended a John McCain campaign event in New York City. There were several Democrats in attendance. Not only people who are registered Democrats, but party leaders and workers who had been actively involved in Hillary Clinton's campaign. Indeed, the gentlemen who "keynoted" the event was a former publisher of the left-wing Village Voice magazine and a veteran of the Robert Kennedy, George McGovern, and Jimmy Carter campaigns. Hardly a right-wing conservative. He gave one of the best stump speeches I have heard why Barack Obama should not be elected president. (It comes down to not trusting Obama to keep the United States safe and strong in a dangerous world and rejecting Obama's "government knows best" attitude when it comes to domestic issues.) Another person I met at the event was a sprightly elderly woman who manned telephones for Hillary for five months, and now is supporting McCain.

There is nothing remotely similar to this taking place among Republicans. (No, Christopher Buckley endorsing Obama is not the same thing at all.)

Some more anecdotal evidence of a lack of support for Obama among Democrats: I live in the Upper West Side neighborhood of New York City. You cannot find too many places in the country that are more liberal than that. Walking around my neighborhood during the 2004 presidential campaign, I felt "assaulted" on all sides by Kerry-Edwards buttons, bumper stickers, and posters. This year, there clearly is not the same level of outward support for Obama. It is remarkable (and welcome). Will most of the people in my neighborhood vote for Obama on election day? Of course. Will Obama win New York? Almost certainly. But the lack of enthusiasm for Obama among these Democrats, who I'm sure would be going gaga for Hillary, speaks volumes about Obama's true prospects for victory this year.

The point is simple: Don't believe the Obama hype coming out of the mainstream media. If the media were truly objective and unbiased, they would be covering the race much differently. Instead of trying to browbeat the country into voting for Obama, they would be analyzing the issues and factors that favor and disfavor both candidates. Instead of focusing on college students and intellectuals, they would be focusing on working-class and middle-class voters, especially "Hillary Democrats." These voters may very well determine the election. Yet this huge story is being ignored by the MSM.

Furthermore, the media would not so consistently confuse intensity of support for breadth of support. Granted, Barack Obama's supporters tend to be more enthusiastic about their candidate than John McCain's supporters are about him. Leftists are always looking for their earthly messiah. But this does not mean that Obama's supporters, come election day, will outnumber McCain's. Whether in support of McCain or in opposition to Obama, I predict these voters will go to the polls. Contrary to the wishful thinking of Democratic pundits, they are not staying home. These voters may be unexcited, but they are not apathetic. And 51% of "unexcited" voters will defeat 49% of even the most "inspired" voters. Every time.

Of course, we all know what the mainstream media's "narrative" will be if (I believe, when) John McCain wins the election: The American people refused to vote for Obama because of the color of his skin (and not because of the content of his politics). The "right-wing attack machine" scared voters into voting for McCain, even against their own social and economic self-interest. Black and poor voters were intimidated by Republican thugs and prevented from voting. We know this story by heart as well.

So be prepared. In a few more weeks, the political environment in this country is likely to become a heckuva lot nastier. For there are real signs pointing to a McCain victory this year, whether or not the mainstream media wants to acknowledge them.
