In Case You Missed It: In Iraq Vote, Congress Is Casting Aside The Constitution
From USA Today

By David B. Rivkin Jr. and Lee A. Casey
Op-Ed
March 28, 2007

[W]ars cannot be run, at least not successfully, by committee, and one decision-maker is more accountable than hundreds of members of Congress. ...

The House's $124 billion Iraq spending bill -- a version of which is working its way through the Senate this week -- would violate the Constitution's separation of powers principle by interfering with the president's ability to exercise his powers as commander in chief.

The fact that the House bill also is larded with pork, including subsidies for such critical wartime industries as spinach growing and dairy farming, simply adds insult to injury. ... [T]he Democratic leadership must bribe its own members with new spending, or even -- as reported by The Politico -- threaten them with yanking the earmarks for their districts, to obtain enough votes for a raid on the president's constitutional authority. ...

As commander in chief, the president is entitled to make the strategic, operational and tactical decisions relating to combat ...

The House action, in addition to setting a firm deadline of Aug. 31, 2008, for the exit of all U.S. combat troops from Iraq, raises serious questions about how Congress can properly go about forcing the president to end the war. ...

[T]he United States finds itself today in a global struggle with an enemy who is entirely prepared to come to us as they did on Sept. 11, 2001. If Congress did block U.S. combat operations in Iraq, there is every reason to believe that it would quickly be transformed into a new al-Qaeda sanctuary. ...

[C]ongress appears willing to grant the power for the president to prosecute "counterterrorism" operations in Iraq, even while cutting off the funding for combat missions. ... [T]his language ... makes the problem even worse. It would amount to true congressional micromanagement ...

This type of militarily nonsensical splitting-the-difference compromise, of course, is a perfect example of war by committee -- and confirms the Framers' wisdom in vesting the power to direct America's armed forces in one individual, the president of the United States.

ONE OF THE BEST PRESIDENTS EVER!!! President Bush, I am a 15 year-old from Arkansas. I believe you are one of the best presidents ever to reside in the White House. I thank you for your courage to stand by your beliefs and convictions no matter what the democrats or liberal news media try to do to you. I also thank you for bringing your Christian beliefs into your politics. We NEED a man of God like you in Washington. Keep a strong stand on the issues like abortion, cloning, and gay rights(marriages, etc.) You have SOOO much more support than the media tells America you do. I personally think that the war was just even if no WMDs are found---we liberated an entire country from an evil dictator that cared nothing about his people, only himself. God has truly blessed you and your family, as well as America by putting you in the White House. I am confident He will do it again in November. Thank you for all you have done. I pray for you almost every day, and I am confident you have almost every vote from the members of my church-----nearly 15,000. In the name of the Lord God Almighty who controls everything I say these words. Amen. A future Republican voter and Christian Evangelist or Pastor What a change!! I grew up thinking that because my family was Democrat then I was also Democrat. As a single mom of 30, I started paying attention to politics and our nation. I soon realized that I was in fact a Republican. What an astounding understanding. My Father, who wasn't able to raise me the way a father should due to mental illness would, over the years, drop hints that I should change my political views, while my mother who had been a democrat all her life would argue with the television. I chose to shut it all out and ignore my great country and the privilege I had as a citizen of these Great United States of America. Through out my entire family tree, I had men that served these Great United States of America. In every war, from as far back as WWI, I had a relative willing to give to his nation. As my father passed away in 2001 I realized that the ideals of the Republican Party were my ideals. I believe in smaller government, lower taxes, and the moral standards that we as Christians must adhear to. I fell in love with our President George W. Bush, and I fell in love with America. For the first time in my life, I understood the sacrifices that were made to keep me and my family FREE!!! And what an awesome responsibility it is to be a citizen of these Great United States of America. The passing of a Great Man to all Americans, President Ronald Reagan, has given me greater resolve to support our President, and to LET FREEDOM REIGN in America. Thanks be to God, through my prayer and change of heart my mother has now also changed her views and become what God always intended her to be a Republican!! To those who oppose this War on Terror and the resolve to protect, defend, and help all those that are oppressed by terror, to them I say... Pray that you are never in an oppressive situation where your Freedom and Liberty are taken away. March on President Bush, March on... there are 2 women in Kentucky that support and pray for you with every passing day.. Kensyl and LynnAnn Lawrenceburg, Kentucky

Iraq A lot of people think the 26 nations envolved with Iraq is not a worldwide effort. Let them know that in the Korean Conflict there were only 30 nations with troops envolved. 4 million Koreans were killed, 1 million Chinese and 400,000 Collition troops lost thier lives. (55,000 Americans) I belive Presedent Bush has achieved great success. World Peace and stability has never been easy. Thank all of those who have gave the ultimate sacrifice for our basic freedoms.

Questions I am a registered Republican, however I have some questions following:QUESTIONS - QUESTIONS - QUESTIONSWhy do most folks, when they become successful, become CONSERVATIVES?Why do most folks, when they learn to speak proper English, become CONSERVATIVES?Why are most ambitious and motivated folks CONSERVATIVES?Why are more LIBERAL public officials "caught with their hand in the till" than CONSERVATIVES?Why are CONSERVATIVE gatherings so much better dressed than LIBERAL?Why are LIBERALS for higher taxes? Could it be that most don't pay any taxes? Why are so many LIBERALS on the "dole"?Why are so many government employees LIBERALS?Why are so many public school teachers LIBERALS?Why do we find so many social problems where we find LIBERALS?Why do we find so many CONSERVATIVES in quite, peaceful neighborhoods? Why are virtually all "rappers" LIBERALS?Why are so many LIBERAL politicians so anti-American?Why are LIBERAL politicians so shrill and antagonistic? Could it be that their constituents do not react as expected to normal behavior?

President Bush and the Media I support President Bush one 100%. His leadership, how he stays focus on National and International issues, his patriotism. What really disgusts me is the hate that the news media shows. How hypocritical! Blaming and pointing fingers to the government and it's policies. Going overboard with the pictures of the prisoners in Iraq, hypocrites why wasn't the picture of the beheading shown? The polls that show the Democratic contender ahead, I like to know where are this polls been taken at, because I'm sure that there are a lot of people like me who has never taken part in a poll and our Vote would go to President Bush. I do not believe in polls. I listening to the news from conservative news media. I am sick and tired of the hatred and disgrace that they (news media) brings to the country and how they make us look before the whole world. I am sure that the terrorists love it! And you know I'd rather see us fighting the terrorist in their countri! es than in our country. Further more I'm a single parent I raised three children on my own and I point out to them the Hate and how the left media wants to brain wash us. Go Mr. President! We are with you! GC; CHICAGO, IL

PELOSI & MURTHA~TWO WHACO IDIOTS GONE MAD !

Difient Democrats ~why do these democrats always looks so mean and full of hate and vengence ! What a sad bunch of derranged folks in our government these days !!

WASHINGTON — House Democrats called for a new direction in Iraq on Friday, passing a measure ordering President Bush to withdraw U.S. combat troops from Iraq by September 2008.

Bush vowed to veto the measure if it makes it to his desk.

"A narrow majority in the House of Representatives abdicated its responsibility by passing a war spending bill that has no chance of becoming law and brings us no closer to getting our troops the resources they need to do their job," Bush said from the White House Diplomatic Reception Room while joined by family members of veterans and troops in combat.

Bush called on Congress to fund the troops, saying the current bill contains "too much pork, too many conditions."

"The purpose of the emergency war spending bill I requested was to provide our troops with vital funding. Instead, Democrats in the House, in an act of political theater, voted to substitute their judgment for that of our military commanders on the ground in Iraq."

High-ranked senators also vowed Friday to strip the language from the bill that requires troop withdrawal.

Democrats won passage by a 218-212 vote on the $124 billion war spending bill, which will fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Today, this Congress faces a historic vote. A vote to truly change the direction of the Iraqi conflict,” said Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., just before the vote.

Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, also called the vote "historic," urging colleagues to vote against the measure.

"Our troops are on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, doing their duty to protect freedom and to end tyranny," House Minority Leader Boehner said. "They're there watching this debate we're having in the House today and wondering, 'Will Congress do its duty? Will Congress stand up and support he mission that I'm in?' "

The vote puts Congress closer to a showdown with the White House over Bush's Iraq policy.

Bush will veto the bill, White House spokesman Tony Snow told reporters at Friday's briefing.

"Look, the president's going to veto this bill, and he's going to veto it because even though it provides some funding, it also puts handcuffs on generals, colonels, lieutenant colonels, majors, captains, lieutenants, sergeants, corporals, privates, and everybody else," Snow said.

Most Republicans opposed the Democrats' plan, which also included budget requests not related to war spending.

"What we got instead was a poorly assembled wish list of non-emergency spending requests, wrapped in a date-certain declaration of defeat — a confirmation to our enemies that, if they hang on just a bit longer, we'll be out of their way soon," said Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.

Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., told fellow lawmakers a vote against the bill would be a vote against funding for the troops, health care and military families.

“You’re voting against supporting the troops if you’re voting against the money that goes to the troops,” Murtha said.

Bush urged Congress to approve the bill without a timeline during a meeting Thursday with his Iraqi civilian reconstruction team.

"The Congress owes you the money you need to do the job, without any strings attached," he said. "Congress needs to get their business done quickly, get the monies we've requested funded and let our folks on the ground do the job."

Defense Secretary Robert Gates warned that if Congress fails to pass a measure funding the war efforts by April 15, it will slow down training of troops scheduled for future deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Gates says it would also delay repair of equipment.

Meanwhile, the Senate Appropriations Committee on Thursday approved a $121 billion version of Bush's emergency war spending request, but bucked the White House by putting in language that sets a date-specific timeframe for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

The Senate bill sets a March 31, 2008, goal for withdrawing all combat troops out of Iraq. The legislation, which also gobs on billions in special projects at home, now heads to the Senate floor for a vote by the full chamber.

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., issued a statement Friday chafing at the administration's veto threat. The Appropriations Committee chairman said the White House was ignoring homeland security problems and the needs of veterans and hurricane victims.

"The president continues to warn that we are a nation at grave risk of terrorist attacks, but he failed to request a single dime for homeland security priorities. The American people are sick and tired of Bush administration bellicosity. The White House ought to stop worrying about its political future, and instead should work with Congress to guarantee the security and economic future of this nation," Byrd said.

The full Senate likely will take up the bill next week, and a number of high-ranked senators said they aim to strip out the withdrawal language through an amendment they will offer Tuesday.

"We're not prepared to tell the enemy, 'Hang on, we'll give you a date when we're leaving.' We're not prepared to micromanage this new strategy ... and surge that's succeeding in Iraq. We're not ready to hamstring our military leaders and not let them carry their responsibilities," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who is co-sponosoring the amemdment.

Joining him, Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., said, "Deadliens set by Congress in war are deadlines for defeat." McCain and Lieberman were joined by Sens. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., and Tom Coburn, R-Okla.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's standalone measure to set a timeline for the withdrawal of troops failed last week by a 50-48 vote.

The House measure is unlikely to get through the Senate unchanged, where many Democrats oppose a timetable on the war.

AUSTRALIA TELLS MUSLIMS LIKE IT ITS !! HOORAH!

Our people in the government should read this - maybe they'd get the hint and join society for a change.

Subject: Fw: Australia today, America tomorrow

Excerpts from an on going debate in Australia.

This is true and can be checked at

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Shari law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown. Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were made by parliament "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Shari law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you", he said on N ational Television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia: one the Australian law and another
Islamic law that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Shari law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option", Costello said

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off.

Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who don't want, to live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can basically clear off", he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

Quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians."

"However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the 'politically correct' crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia." "However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand." "This idea of Australia being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. And as Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle."

"This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom"

"We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society .. Learn the language!"

"Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture."

"We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us."

"If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like "A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your culture, but do not force it on others.

"This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'."

"If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here So accept the country YOU accepted."

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the same truths !
