OBAMA WILL NOT HAVE CHRISTMAS AT THE WHITEHOUSE IF ELECTED PRESIDENT~HOW SAD WILL THAT BE ?:
NO CHRISTMAS TREE AT THE WHITE HOUSE IF OBAMA IS ELECTED PRESIDENT ? I would not be surprised at all. If Obama is elected President on November 4th, I guess we will just wait and see in December, 2009.
GOD HELP AMERICA IF THIS PERSON GETS ELECTED.
In a magazine interview Obama and his wife Michelle revealed that one of their steadfast house rules is not giving Christmas or birthday presents to Malia, 10, and Sasha, seven.
Yet he lets his kids go out on HALLOWEEN. I guess we will know very soon now.
He also doesn’t celebrate his children Birthdays…He will only buy them a pet if he is elected.
These are signs that he has a little Muslim still left in him, because Muslims do not celebrate with gifts.
From this I get that if Obama is elected president that during Christmas there will be no Christmas tree at the White House and it will be dark! This goes right down the line of being a far left liberal because they have been trying to get rid of Christmas for sometime now.
Americans, do we really want a person like this as president?

What does Christmas mean to Muslims?
In the Muslim world, Christmas is not celebrated publicly, except in the minority Christian communities in the Middle East. And in North Africa not at all. To a Western Christian living there, the absence of the usual sights, sounds, and practices of Christmas, which are such a part of our culture, is most striking–and can even be depressing. Go out into the streets and stores, but you will see no Christmas trees or decorations. Go into the homes on Christmas day, but you will not have a Christmas dinner or listen to the reading of the Christmas story, unless you are in the home of one of the few Christians. Turn on TV or radio, but you will find no Christmas programs and few if any signs that it is Christmas. There is no “Christmas Spirit” at all!
It is not that Muslims are ignorant of Christmas. Their understanding of it often leaves something to be desired, however. In North Africa, for example, it is commonly viewed as a “European” holiday. Based on what they have observed, to many it represents a big party, with feasting, drinking (and getting drunk), and similar behaviour–very much like the pagan festival it started out to be back in ancient Rome. Obama, the red diaper baby~Socialist, terrorist lover and all his crimnal friends
By now most of the American public has heard about unrepentant Weatherman terror bomber Bill Ayers, who discovered the pen is mightier than the sword and so worked with Barack Obama to steer $150 million to their radical cronies via the Annenberg Challenge.
In March and April TV viewers were treated to a solid month of "God damn America" from Obama's pastor of 20 years, Jeremiah Wright.
Are these simply isolated incidences of Obama using poor judgment in choosing his allies?
No. Barack Obama is a "red diaper baby" who has spent his formative years -- literally from the moment of his birth -- interacting with members and sympathizers of the Communist Party, USA. His mother Stanley Ann Dunham has been described by former classmates as a "fellow traveler." His grandfather Stanley Armour Dunham arranged Obama's mentorship by Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis.
Key details about Ann Dunham come from interviews in The Chicago Tribune, March 27, 2007 and the Seattle Times, April 8, 2008.
Done bouncing around Kansas, California and Texas in the years after World War Two, Stanley and Madelyn in 1955 picked up and relocated 2,000 miles from Texas to Seattle. The next year they relocated to Mercer Island specifically so their daughter, Obama's future mother, Stanley Ann Dunham could attend Mercer Island high school.
What was special about Mercer Island High School? The Chicago Tribune explains:
"In 1955, the chairman of the Mercer Island school board, John Stenhouse, testified before the House Un-American Activities Subcommittee that he had been a member of the Communist Party."
After intense debate, Stenhouse decided not to resign from the school board according to an April 11, 1955 account in Time Magazine. While others demanded Stenhouse's resignation, the Dunhams gravitated towards his school.
Stenhouse's leftism found an echo on the faculty. The Seattle Times explains:
Dunham gravitated toward an intellectual clique. According to former classmate Chip Wall, she caught foreign films at Seattle's only art-house theater, the Ridgemont, and trekked to University District coffee shops like the Encore to talk about jazz, the value of learning from other cultures and the "very dull Eisenhower-ness of our parents."
"We were critiquing America in those days in the same way we are today: The press is dumbed down, education is dumbed down, people don't know anything about geography or the rest of the world," said Wall, who later taught at Mercer Island High and is now retired in Seattle.
"She was not a standard-issue girl. You don't start out life as a girl with a name like Stanley without some sense you are not ordinary.
Eisenhower helped re-shape the political geography of Europe. The parents of the late 1950s are those we now call "The Greatest Generation." But years later Ann Dunham's ignorance and arrogance found an echo in Obama's book "Dreams From my Father" (p 47). Obama describes himself in Indonesia as:
"...extremely well mannered when compared to other American children. She (Ann Dunham) had taught me to disdain the blend of ignorance and arrogance that too often characterized Americans abroad."
Obama describes his mother arguing with her second husband, Lolo Soetoro. Soetoro had become an Indonesian oil company manager and wanted Ann to accompany him to various social functions with American oil company personnel. Ann refused arguing, "Those are not my people." (p 47)
As with Obama, his mother's generation of these pseudo-intellectual leftist high schoolers found a way to think of themselves as superior. How? By surrounding themselves with co-thinkers. The Seattle Times continues:
One respite was found in a wing of Mercer Island High called "anarchy alley." Jim Wichterman taught a wide-open philosophy course that included Karl Marx. Next door, Val Foubert taught a rigorous dose of literature, including Margaret Mead's writings on homosexuality. Those classes prompted what Wichterman, now 80 and retired in Ellensburg, called "mothers' marches" of parents outraged at the curriculum.
Dunham thrived in the environment, Wichterman said.
"As much as a high-school student can, she'd question anything: What's so good about democracy? What's so good about capitalism? What's wrong with communism? What's good about communism?" Wichterman said. "She had what I call an inquiring mind."
She also showed her politics, wearing a campaign button for Adlai Stevenson. And despite flirting with atheism, she went to services at East Shore Unitarian church, a left-leaning congregation in Bellevue.
The Chicago Tribune found more than ‘flirtation' in comments from Dunham's friends:
"She touted herself as an atheist, and it was something she'd read about and could argue," said Maxine Box, who was Dunham's best friend in high school. "She was always challenging and arguing and comparing. She was already thinking about things that the rest of us hadn't."If you were concerned about something going wrong in the world, Stanley would know about it first," said Chip Wall, who described her as "a fellow traveler...."
The Chicago Tribune mentions a description of the Dunham's chosen church as "The Little Red Church on the Hill". According to its own website, East Shore Unitarian Church got that name because of, "Well-publicized debates and forums on such controversial subjects as the admission of ‘Red China' to the United Nations...." The fact that John Stenhouse once served as church president might also have contributed to the "red" label.
In a 2006 speech, Obama explained: "I was not raised in a particularly religious household, as undoubtedly many in the audience were. My father, who returned to Kenya when I was just two, was born Muslim but as an adult became an atheist. My mother, whose parents were non-practicing Baptists and Methodists, was probably one of the most spiritual and kindest people I've ever known, but grew up with a healthy skepticism of organized religion herself. As a consequence, so did I."
In describing his grandparents as Baptist and Methodist, Obama was contradicting himself. Describing his grandfather in Dreams (p17), Obama wrote: "In his only skirmish into organized religion, he would enroll the family in the local Unitarian Universalist congregation...."
Like grandfather, like grandson: Barack Obama would make his "only skirmish into organized religion", joining Chicago's Trinity United Church, inspired by anti-American church leader, Reverend Jeremiah Wright. He held tightly to Trinity until it endangered his presidential campaign. Then he quit. This is the sole basis of Obama's description of himself as a "Christian."
Barack Obama writes: "The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics."
Atheism is not the only echo of his mother and grandparents. There is the arrogance, also. Just as Ann Dunham looked down on "dull Eisenhowerness", Obama April 6 infamously described his view of rural blue collar Americans while speaking to an audience of wealthy San Francisco donors:
"It's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
Ann Dunham could not stand the dumbed-down people who "don't know anything about geography or the rest of the world." But she had a very different idea about black Americans. As Obama explains:
"Every black man was Thurgood Marshall or Sidney Poitier; every black woman Fannie Lou Hammer or Lena Horne. To be black was to be the beneficiary of a great inheritance, a special destiny, glorious burdens that only we were strong enough to bear." (Dreams p 51)
Starting in the 1930s the Communist Party promoted opportunities for ‘inter-racial' relationships among its members. The Communists could monopolize their social ties due to the intense social pressures created by the Democrats' system of Jim Crow segregation. The social stigma against what segregationists such as Tennessee Senator Al Gore Sr. called ‘miscegenation' helped keep people in the orbit of the CPUSA. As future Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis would explain in his 1968 book "Sex Rebel: Black", CPUSA recruitment burgeoned in part due to the sexual opportunities the Communists created.
"With the Soviet Union and the United States allies in the world struggle against the Axis, it was quite respectable to join and work with many groups later labeled Communist. Black and white mingled openly; for the first time many snow broads and spade studs could meet without fear or stigma and they made the most of this opportunity." (p 115)
The Seattle Times describes Ann Dunham's attitude towards dating at all-white Mercer Island High School:
Dunham hadn't had a boyfriend in high school, according to Maxine Box, her best friend at the time. So Box and others were stunned when Dunham wrote them to say she'd married the University of Hawaii's first African student, a Kenyan named Barack Obama.
This is echoed in The Chicago Tribune:
While her girlfriends, including Box, regularly baby-sat, Stanley Ann showed no interest. "She felt she didn't need to date or marry or have children," Box recalled. "It wasn't a put-down, it wasn't hurtful. That's just who she was."
Things suddenly changed when Ann graduated in 1960 and the Dunhams moved to Hawaii. Young Ann quickly fell in love with and married Barack Obama Sr, a socialist from Kenya who she met in a University of Hawaii Russian language class -- and soon gave birth to Barack Jr. Seattle's leftist milieu of coffeehouse political debates in Hawaii evolved into long sessions at UH Manoa with other leftist students listening to jazz, drinking beer and debating politics and world affairs. Along with Dunham and Obama Sr were future Hawaii congressman Neil Abercrombie and others who would become leaders of the Hawaii Democratic Party.
Honolulu had just two years earlier been shaken by the Honolulu Seven Trial of Longshoremen's Union leaders and other Communist Party members ending with convictions overturned by a 1958 Supreme Court decision. But just as with John Stenhouse and Mercer Island, this didn't scare the Dunhams -- it attracted them. Upon arriving in Honolulu, they became fast friends with Frank Marshall Davis who had been a columnist for the ILWU's communist-line Honolulu Record newspaper. Davis had at one point chaired the Honolulu Seven defense committee. Davis' editor had been one of the Honolulu Seven defendants -- Koji Ariyoshi. The largest shareholder in the Record was Ed Rohrbough. Ariyoshi's memoir "From Kona to Yenan" describes how he and Rohrbough worked as US military intelligence officers hand in hand with Mao Zedong in Yenan, China during WW2. During and after the war they helped steer US policy toward the Red Chinese and against the Nationalists.
In Davis' memoir, "Livin the Blues" (p321), Davis describes the numerous highly successful people among Hawaii's very small black population and lists the positions they have risen in their various professions. He then complains:
"These and similar jobs and elective positions were obtained solely on merit. There are not enough souls here to wield political or economic power. There is no ghetto, hence no potential Black Power."
On page 323 Davis continues:
Hawaii is not for those who can be happy only in Soul City. This is no place for those who can identify only with Afro-America. "Little Harlem" is only a couple of blocks of bars, barbershops, and a soul food restaurant or two. When I arrived, the local establishment was trying to shunt black servicemen, gamblers, pimps, dope peddlers, and prostitutes into this area....
Because Smith Street was the closest Hawaii had to a black ghetto, it became a focus of work for the Communist Party in Hawaii. When attempting to lead a hostile CPUSA takeover of the NAACP in the late 1940s, Davis pointed to Smith Street as an example of segregation in Hawaii. And just as Davis described joining the CPUSA in "Sex Rebel: Black", he also described interracial group sex and voyeurism in the back room of a Smith Street bar he called the "Green Goose". (p278-80)
Obama describes Davis as playing a very intimate role in his life from age 9 to 18. When Barack returned to Honolulu from Indonesia in 1970, grandpa almost immediately took Barack to meet Davis. Davis was to serve as a father figure to the young Obama for much of his youth and adolescence. In light of the Communists' bizarre focus on Smith Street, Obama's description of meeting Davis for the first time at age 9 or 10 in 1970 or 1971 takes on new meaning:
...by the time I met Frank he must have been pushing eighty, with a big dewlapped face and an ill-kempt gray Afro that made him look like an old, shaggy-maned lion. He would read us his poetry whenever we stopped by his house, sharing whiskey with gramps out of an emptied jelly jar. As the night wore on, the two of them would solicit my help in composing dirty limericks. Eventually, the conservation would turn to laments about women.
"They'll drive you to drink, boy," Frank would tell me soberly. "And if you let ‘em, they'll drive you into your grave."
I was intrigued by the old Frank, with his books and whiskey breath and the hint of hard-earned knowledge behind the hooded eyes. The visits to his house always left me feeling vaguely uncomfortable, though, as if I were witnessing some complicated, unspoken transaction between the two men, a transaction I couldn't fully understand....
Then Obama immediately segues into a description of Smith Street:
....The same thing I felt whenever Gramps took me downtown to one of his favorite bars, in Honolulu's red light district.
"Don't tell your grandmother," he would say with a wink, and we'd walk past hard-faced, soft-bodied streetwalkers into a small, dark bar with a jukebox and a couple of pool tables. Nobody seemed to mind that Gramps was the only white man in the place, or that I was the only eleven- or twelve-year-old. Some of the men leaning across the bar would wave at us, and the bartender, a big, light-skinned woman with bare, fleshy arms, would bring a Scotch for gramps and a Coke for me. If nobody else was playing at the tables, Gramps would spot me a few balls and teach me the game, but usually I would sit at the bar, my legs dangling from the high stool, blowing bubbles into my drink and looking at the pornographic art on the walls-the phosphorescent women on animal skins, the Disney characters in compromising positions....
...Our presence there felt forced, and by the time I had reached junior high school I had learned to beg off from Gramps's invitations, knowing that whatever it was I was after, whatever it was that I needed, would have to come from some other source.
In essence, when the young Obama returned from Indonesia, Gramps set about teaching him the CPUSA version of what it meant to be black. That is why Obama was introduced to Davis and that is why gramps took him to Smith Street until Obama finally stopped accepting the initiations.
This also explains Gramps' reaction when Madelyn Dunham is hassled by a black panhandler while waiting for a bus. Instead of agreeing to give his wife a ride to work, Gramps is consumed by the fear that Madelyn, (or Toot, as Obama calls her) is a racist. Gramps reports this to Obama who then goes to talk to Davis in an effort to sort it all out. (Dreams p 87-91) For Obama, the incident was so shattering that he found himself talking about it on the campaign stump several times in March, 2008 and calling his grandmother "a typical white person."
Dunham had been the Bank of Hawaii's first female vice president. The Honolulu Advertiser reported, "In March, several Bank of Hawaii co-workers told The Advertiser they were stunned by Obama's words and had never heard Dunham make comments about anyone's ethnicity."
CPUSA archivist Gerald Horne explains the mold into which young Barack was cast by his mother, grandparents, and Frank Marshall Davis:
"In his best selling memoir ‘Dreams of my Father', the author (Obama) speaks warmly of an older black poet, he identifies simply as "Frank" as being a decisive influence in helping him to find his present identity as an African-American, a people who have been the least anticommunist and the most left-leaning of any constituency in this nation ...."

VOTE NO TO OBAMA~PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE~THIS IS DANGEROUS!
I can only hope and "pray" really hard that when people go to the polls on November 4the, 2008 that they ill think really hard about what is a stake in this very important election. It is not a white or black issue, it is a moral issue.
I know that the majority of Americans surely have to have some kind of normal brain up there. I know that all the worshippers of Obama are not the kind of folks that use the one God gave them. They are either blacks, nut cases or followers of one another...Like you know, just because he is black is why they are voting for him, or they are either, very uneducated or white trailer trash and are looking for a handout so they want have to get off their fat sorry asses and get a damn job.
You know the kind. Food stamps, welfare checks, WIC. Oh and the one ones that take kids in their homes as foster kids and get money from the government or the ones that keep having kids out of wedlock so they can get a larger welfare check every month. You get my point. It goes on and on and there are many. If any of this makes you mad then I am sorry. It is the truth. PROVE ME WRONG.!!
The house and the senate are totally out of control and they need to all be replaced.
If people would vote against every incumbant that they know to be corrupt it would be a much better group of people for a while at least until they get corrupted. LOL.

In the Wall Street Journal today.
A Liberal Supermajority
Get ready for 'change' we haven't seen since 1965, or 1933.
If the current polls hold, Barack Obama will win the White House on November 4 and Democrats will consolidate their Congressional majorities, probably with a filibuster-proof Senate or very close to it. Without the ability to filibuster, the Senate would become like the House, able to pass whatever the majority wants.
Though we doubt most Americans realize it, this would be one of the most profound political and ideological shifts in U.S. history. Liberals would dominate the entire government in a way they haven't since 1965, or 1933. In other words, the election would mark the restoration of the activist government that fell out of public favor in the 1970s. If the U.S. really is entering a period of unchecked left-wing ascendancy, Americans at least ought to understand what they will be getting, especially with the media cheering it all on.
The nearby table shows the major bills that passed the House this year or last before being stopped by the Senate minority. Keep in mind that the most important power of the filibuster is to shape legislation, not merely to block it. The threat of 41 committed Senators can cause the House to modify its desires even before legislation comes to a vote. Without that restraining power, all of the following have very good chances of becoming law in 2009 or 2010.
- Medicare for all. When HillaryCare cratered in 1994, the Democrats concluded they had overreached, so they carved up the old agenda into smaller incremental steps, such as Schip for children. A strongly Democratic Congress is now likely to lay the final flagstones on the path to government-run health insurance from cradle to grave.
Mr. Obama wants to build a public insurance program, modeled after Medicare and open to everyone of any income. According to the Lewin Group, the gold standard of health policy analysis, the Obama plan would shift between 32 million and 52 million from private coverage to the huge new entitlement. Like Medicare or the Canadian system, this would never be repealed.
The commitments would start slow, so as not to cause immediate alarm. But as U.S. health-care spending flowed into the default government options, taxes would have to rise or services would be rationed, or both. Single payer is the inevitable next step, as Mr. Obama has already said is his ultimate ideal.
- The business climate. "We have some harsh decisions to make," Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned recently, speaking about retribution for the financial panic. Look for a replay of the Pecora hearings of the 1930s, with Henry Waxman, John Conyers and Ed Markey sponsoring ritual hangings to further their agenda to control more of the private economy. The financial industry will get an overhaul in any case, but telecom, biotech and drug makers, among many others, can expect to be investigated and face new, more onerous rules. See the "Issues and Legislation" tab on Mr. Waxman's Web site for a not-so-brief target list.
The danger is that Democrats could cause the economic downturn to last longer than it otherwise will by enacting regulatory overkill like Sarbanes-Oxley. Something more punitive is likely as well, for instance a windfall profits tax on oil, and maybe other industries.
- Union supremacy. One program certain to be given right of way is "card check." Unions have been in decline for decades, now claiming only 7.4% of the private-sector work force, so Big Labor wants to trash the secret-ballot elections that have been in place since the 1930s. The "Employee Free Choice Act" would convert workplaces into union shops merely by gathering signatures from a majority of employees, which means organizers could strongarm those who opposed such a petition.
The bill also imposes a compulsory arbitration regime that results in an automatic two-year union "contract" after 130 days of failed negotiation. The point is to force businesses to recognize a union whether the workers support it or not. This would be the biggest pro-union shift in the balance of labor-management power since the Wagner Act of 1935.
- Taxes. Taxes will rise substantially, the only question being how high. Mr. Obama would raise the top income, dividend and capital-gains rates for "the rich," substantially increasing the cost of new investment in the U.S. More radically, he wants to lift or eliminate the cap on income subject to payroll taxes that fund Medicare and Social Security. This would convert what was meant to be a pension insurance program into an overt income redistribution program. It would also impose a probably unrepealable increase in marginal tax rates, and a permanent shift upward in the federal tax share of GDP.
- The green revolution. A tax-and-regulation scheme in the name of climate change is a top left-wing priority. Cap and trade would hand Congress trillions of dollars in new spending from the auction of carbon credits, which it would use to pick winners and losers in the energy business and across the economy. Huge chunks of GDP and millions of jobs would be at the mercy of Congress and a vast new global-warming bureaucracy. Without the GOP votes to help stage a filibuster, Senators from carbon-intensive states would have less ability to temper coastal liberals who answer to the green elites.
- Free speech and voting rights. A liberal supermajority would move quickly to impose procedural advantages that could cement Democratic rule for years to come. One early effort would be national, election-day voter registration. This is a long-time goal of Acorn and others on the "community organizer" left and would make it far easier to stack the voter rolls. The District of Columbia would also get votes in Congress -- Democratic, naturally.
Felons may also get the right to vote nationwide, while the Fairness Doctrine is likely to be reimposed either by Congress or the Obama FCC. A major goal of the supermajority left would be to shut down talk radio and other voices of political opposition.
- Special-interest potpourri. Look for the watering down of No Child Left Behind testing standards, as a favor to the National Education Association. The tort bar's ship would also come in, including limits on arbitration to settle disputes and watering down the 1995 law limiting strike suits. New causes of legal action would be sprinkled throughout most legislation. The anti-antiterror lobby would be rewarded with the end of Guantanamo and military commissions, which probably means trying terrorists in civilian courts. Google and MoveOn.org would get "net neutrality" rules, subjecting the Internet to intrusive regulation for the first time.
It's always possible that events -- such as a recession -- would temper some of these ambitions. Republicans also feared the worst in 1993 when Democrats ran the entire government, but it didn't turn out that way. On the other hand, Bob Dole then had 43 GOP Senators to support a filibuster, and the entire Democratic Party has since moved sharply to the left. Mr. Obama's agenda is far more liberal than Bill Clinton's was in 1992, and the Southern Democrats who killed Al Gore's BTU tax and modified liberal ambitions are long gone.
In both 1933 and 1965, liberal majorities imposed vast expansions of government that have never been repealed, and the current financial panic may give today's left another pretext to return to those heydays of welfare-state liberalism. Americans voting for "change" should know they may get far more than they ever imagined.

Obama's Religious Ruse: 'I've Always Been a Christian'
"October 14, 2008Obama's Religious Ruse: 'I've Always Been a Christian'By Alexander LaBrecque
What we have here is a baptized Marxist who denies the biographical reality of his Muslim background, takes pride in his skepticism, is the center of his universe, is posing as a Christian, esteems the power of the christ myth, and seeks the most powerful position of authority in the world."
Part 1 of 3 .
Barack Obama insists that he is a "devout Christian" of "deep faith," and Big Media echoes his claim without question. Even some critics hesitate to challenge the validity of that claim.
The ruse that he is a Christian must be exposed for what it really is: Obama's cloak to conceal that he is a Marxist from a Muslim background, for which he holds widespread support in the Islamic world. This series of three articles will analyze his exploitation of Christian rhetoric to serve the subterfuge.
Obama's claim that he is a Christian coincides with his adamant denial that he was ever a Muslim. Yet his sister with whom he lived as a child has disclosed "my whole family was Muslim."[1] His 1968 registration at a Catholic school lists him as "Barry Soetoro," a citizen of Indonesia, and his religion is Islam.[2] He himself admits that later he studied the Koran at a public school in Jakarta. Only Muslim children studied the Koran there,[3] and his former principal recalls that Barry studied mengaji - recitation of the Koran in Arabic, an advanced form of study.[4]
Without intent, he corroborated this in a 2007 New York Times interview: with a first-rate Arabic accent Obama recited the opening lines of the Muslim call to prayer and remarked that it is "one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset."[5] These lines chant the confession of faith committing one to Islam: the declaration of Allah's supremacy, that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is his prophet.[6]
His memoir discloses that in his teens he considered becoming a Black Muslim like Malcolm X.[7] Obama divulged this year that in 1981 he made a three-week trip to Karachi, Pakistan with Muslim friends from college, and there he became knowledgeable of Sunni and Shiite sects.[8] Although his memoir concealed that journey, it revealed his inner state at that very time: "I had spent the summer brooding over a misspent youth ... the state of the world and the state of my soul. ‘I want to make amends,' I said. ‘Make myself of some use.'"[9] Obama's experience with Islamic sects on that soul-searching, penitential pilgrimage preceded his radical commitment to Marxism as a student at Columbia University.
For two decades Obama was indeed a member of a "church" in Chicago, but its Marxist "theology" of Black Power, its affinities with the Nation of Islam, and having the raving malevolent Jeremiah Wright as his "spiritual mentor" make Obama's claim to be a Christian less than credible.
Confirming that Obama's "deep faith" is not Christian has been his denial that Jesus Christ is Lord of all and the supreme revelation from God for all humankind, and its corollary, his admitted skepticism about an afterlife.
The reality of Jesus' resurrection from the dead is the most basic confession of the Christian faith and has been affirmed by all Christians since the first generation as God's revelation of life everlasting.[10] Christians call upon the name of Jesus as the crucified and risen Lord whom God vindicated to become the Savior of all peoples and to give believers eternal life. This hope is so integral to the Christian faith that the apostle Paul reasoned that conversely if resurrection is not the destiny of those who belong to the risen Christ, then Christ himself is dead, the faith has no content, and believers are not reconciled to God. "If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all."[11] Inherent in Jesus' teaching and the Christian hope is also the Jewish expectation of God's judgment of all persons, that beyond this life divine justice will reward the good and punish those who do evil.[12]
In 2004 Obama was interviewed by Cathleen Falsani of the Chicago Sun-Times. He told her that Christians "may presume a set of doctrines" that "I don't necessarily subscribe to." Elaborating, he trivialized the core of the Christian faith by which believers live: "If all it took was someone proclaiming I believe [in] Jesus Christ and that he died for my sins, and that's all there was to it, people wouldn't have to keep coming to church, would they." Immediately Falsani asked him if he believes in heaven, and the skeptic mocked: "Do I believe in the harps and clouds and wings?" "I don't presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die," or whether rewards for one's conduct will be in this life only or in a hereafter. He identified "heaven" with feeling that he cares for his daughters and that they are learning from him his mother's values. In the same way, sin - inconsistency with his values - is "its own punishment."[13]
Because faith perceives that which is presently unseen, all Christians struggle against weakness of faith, but Christian faith is not skeptical about the hereafter. No one who actually believes that God resurrected Jesus from death to personal immortality remains agnostic about an afterlife.[14] Obama's skepticism on this core premise betrays his skepticism about the reality of Christ's resurrection, about the Christian faith itself.
Obama's definition of "Christian" is likewise illuminating. According to Falsani's transcript, he said:
I am a Christian. So, I have a deep faith. So I draw from the Christian faith. On the other hand, I was born in Hawaii where obviously there are a lot of Eastern influences. I lived in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country in the world. . . . intellectually, I've drawn as much from Judaism as any other faith. . . .
So I'm rooted in the Christian tradition. I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.
Asked if he has always been a Christian, Obama replied: "I was raised more by my mother and my mother was Christian."[15]
In fact she was never a Christian. Her parents were skeptics, she became a Marxist while attending a high school where The Communist Manifesto was taught, and she proudly identified herself as an atheist.[16] In a July 2008 interview, Obama admitted his mother "never formally embraced Christianity as far as I know."[17]
Obama has variations of this ruse. MSNBC reported shortly before Christmas 2007 how he personally assured patrons at a small-town cafe that he has never been anything but a Christian, for his Muslim father was not religious and his parents had divorced. "My mother was a Christian from Kansas ... I was raised by my mother. So, I've always been a Christian." Asked for his definition of "Christian" Obama answered: "Somebody who believes in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior." "I'm so glad to hear that," the inquirer responded[18] - being told what she hoped to hear.
At the very least Obama concealed that this definition of "Christian" never applied to his mother and his upbringing, or else "Christian" includes being an atheist or, as he described her in other accounts, an agnostic and secular humanist. Knowing that his mother was never a Christian, Obama fabricated that she was, in order to make his own claim more plausible.
Obama's mother did not believe that the crucified Jesus of Nazareth is now the risen Lord and Savior, as Christians do. According to his own testimony his mother was scornful of Bible-believing Christians,[19] an "agnostic"[20] and "a lonely witness for secular humanism"[21] who defined the spiritual values that he still holds today. She "had as much influence on my values as anybody," and "my mother was a deeply spiritual person,"[22] "in many ways the most spiritually awakened person I've ever known."[23] She was "very suspicious of the notion that one particular organized religion offered one truth,"[24] at most believing in a "higher power" common to all religions. "In our household the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad-Gita sat on the shelf alongside books of Greek and Norse and African mythology." This may account somewhat for why Obama did not commit to Islam, despite his Muslim childhood and his later affinity for Islam.
To acquaint him with religions as diverse expressions of human culture his mother took him occasionally to church on Easter and Christmas, to a Buddhist temple, a Shintoist shrine and Hawaiian burial sites.[25] According to Obama, "her view always was that underlying these religions were a common set of beliefs about how you treat other people and how you aspire to act, not just for yourself but also for the greater good."[26]
His mother died of cancer in 1995, some seven years after Obama's alleged commitment to the Christian faith. A decade later Obama ended the "Faith" chapter of his book The Audacity of Hope (2006) with an intimate account of her final days, beset with fear and apprehensive of death: "She had admitted to me during the course of her illness that she was not ready to die. . . . more than once I saw fear flash across her eyes. More than fear of pain or fear of the unknown, it was the sheer loneliness of death that frightened her." Christians might anticipate that our author will here share some words of divine care from the depth of his faith, to diminish her fear and comfort his dying mother; this is wholly absent.
As his next paragraph confirms, nearly a decade later he still had no answer even for his little daughter's question of an afterlife, telling her instead that she is too young "to worry about that," while recognizing within himself that he knows nothing more than that he hopes his mother's spirit might be in a better place. "I wondered whether I should have told [my daughter] the truth, that I wasn't sure what happens when we die, any more than I was sure of where the soul resides or what existed before the Big Bang."[27]
This is the confession of an agnostic materialist -- not of someone who believes that God raised Jesus from the dead, a Christian assured that not even death can separate from the Creator's love those who belong to the risen Christ. He even doubts that God pre-existed a theoretical Big Bang. Obama's inability to offer any assurance of God's care beyond death to either his dying mother or his inquiring child is due to his agnosticism. It is because he himself is an agnostic that he is skeptical of the Christian hope.
What his mother did believe is the atheism of New Age mythologist Joseph Campbell, whose work she admired, and whose influence on Obama is manifest. Campbell popularized interest in the power of myths to affect human experience and denied the Judeo-Christian tradition its historical validity. Campbell's The Power of Myth was one of her favorite texts, according to an interview in which Obama calls his mother "an agnostic," qualifying: "I think she believed in a higher power."[28] According to Campbell, all religions are essentially the same, merely cultural variations of a common human consciousness of being alive; their myths and symbols differ only in details, and those differences are irrelevant. This is an abject rejection of the ethical monotheism of the Judeo-Christian tradition. It is also a denial that God has revealed salvation for humans from all cultures by raising the crucified Jesus from the dead. It means that God has not exalted Jesus as the risen Lord, in whom people of all nations should believe.
Like his mother, Obama himself regards the Christian faith and other religions as merely vehicles for an elevating experience of human consciousness. When he reasons, "I am a Christian. So, I have a deep faith. So I draw from the Christian faith.... So I'm rooted in the Christian tradition," an agnostic is identifying himself with what he regards as Christian myths so that we will project that he believes as Christians do. Yet he immediately qualifies that the myths of other religions are equally valid: "I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people."[29]
Thus what Obama really believes is that through religion - myths of Christian, Muslim, Hindu or animist origins - all people have in common the same higher power, which is their experience of a collective human consciousness. But this experience need not originate from religious myth: just as Obama can "be transported" by "a good choir and a good sermon in the black church," so too "I can be transported by watching a good performance of Hamlet ...or listening to Miles Davis."[30] This is Barack Obama's "deep faith."
At the time of his 2006 book he defined himself as "Christian and skeptic."[31] Not Christian and analytical, not Christian and inquisitive, but "Christian and skeptic." His own testimony confirms he is a "Christian" only in terms of his adopted identity, and a skeptic in regard to the core of the Christian faith, to which he at most "subscribes." Obama attests that his decision to become a member at Trinity did not remove his skepticism, but manifested an existing commitment to his prior world view. "It came about as a choice and not an epiphany; the questions I had did not magically disappear."[32]
The lack of a dramatic conversion is common when children who had been raised by Christians but were uncommitted do commit to Christ later as adults. But that was not Obama's background, and he believes no differently than what his agnostic mother taught him as a child. The one and only difference is his current adoption of Christian identity, that the skeptic now "subscribes to" Christian verbiage.
He tells Christians that he has "a relationship with Jesus Christ," but that means he has attached himself to the christ myth. Like his mother, he scorns Christians who "cling to their religion,"[33] and he touts the depth of his skepticism as attesting his "deep faith": "I retain from my childhood and my experiences growing up a suspicion of dogma. . . . I think religion at its best comes with a big dose of doubt."[34]
In his years as a community organizer Obama taught other activists the tactics of the Marxist agitator Saul Alinsky. One of Alinsky's tactics is to employ ridicule; here is another: "Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more live up to their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."[35] Combining those tactics, Obama has mocked "it's doubtful that our Defense Department would survive [the Sermon on the Mount's] application." This nullification was in context of his arguments for abortion. By Obama's logic, Jesus' ethics cannot be applied socially to innocent human life because the Sermon on the Mount is not applied to defending America from those who seek to kill us.[36]
Falsani asked Obama to identify his spiritual role model, and from his answer apparently it was not enough that for the revelation of God's kingdom and to die for others' sins Jesus went to the cross; perhaps the Senator finds Jesus too judgmental, or Jesus' faith in God too strong. For Obama's spiritual role model is not Jesus but a skeptic, Mahatma Gandhi -- "a great example of a profoundly spiritual man who acted and risked everything on behalf of those values but never slipped into intolerance or dogma. He seemed to always maintain an air of doubt about him."[37]
From that description, one wonders if it is himself Obama seeks to emulate. Asked by Falsani to define sin, Barry replied: "Being out of alignment with my values." Asked to define when he is most centered and aligned spiritually, he answered: "I think I've already described it. It's when I'm being true to myself."
In the light of the foregoing we can better discern from Obama's statements what he actually thinks about Jesus. According to Falsani's transcript, when she asked Obama, "Who's Jesus to you?" he laughed nervously and replied: "Right. Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he's also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher. And he's also a wonderful teacher. I think it's important for all of us, of whatever faith, to have teachers in the flesh and also teachers in history."[38]
It is understandable that Obama laughed nervously at this question, for he had to make his own view of Jesus appear Christian while knowing it is not. For him, Jesus was an historical figure who did exist and is long dead, who was a great teacher not all that unique among other faiths' venerated leaders, past and present -- Gandhi, Buddha, Muhammad, to name a few. In his mind, what distinguishes Jesus from the others is that Christian mythology regards him as "a bridge" between God and humans, therefore to Obama that myth is powerful precisely because it can be a means for reaching his own high aspirations. To quote Alinsky: "The [community] organizer is in a true sense reaching for the highest level to which man can reach -- to create, to be a ‘great creator,' to play God."[39]
What we have here is a baptized Marxist who denies the biographical reality of his Muslim background, takes pride in his skepticism, is the center of his universe, is posing as a Christian, esteems the power of the christ myth, and seeks the most powerful position of authority in the world.
At the time of the Falsani interview Obama closely allied himself with Jeremiah Wright and Trinity United Church. But not once did Obama disclose to Falsani that his church's core is "black liberation theology" or reveal the radical content of Wright's preaching. He knows the difference between its Black Power and historic Christianity, or else he would be more candid about it. The Audacity of Hope? Obama has the audacity to claim he has always been a Christian while disbelieving the Christian hope and its foundation, the reality of Jesus' resurrection, whereby Jesus is Lord of all. His definition of "Christian" includes being an agnostic and a skeptic. Not only is he a pseudo-Christian, he's a messianic poser.
